April 25-Prayer - Verses - Questions to consider

April 25, 2023

Heavenly Father, I read about Lamech and how prideful he was, and I feel convicted every time. Pride is such a problem not just for me, I know, but I can only account for me. Please forgive me when my pride causes me to not love in the way I should. I know it causes me to not love others and do serve others the way I should, but the biggest thing my pride does is keep me from serving You the way I should. When I think about sin, I believe pride is what causes most of the sin we commit. Whether it is lying to make ourselves look better or stay out of trouble, or stealing because we want something we can’t afford and believe we should have, when I look at the list of the Ten Commandments, they all seem to have roots in pride. Help me not be prideful Father. Help me think of what attitude You would want me to have and act in a way that honors You and not me. Help me be rooted in love of You and not love of myself. Help me love myself in a way that honors You, but for that love of self to be rooted in Jesus, not self. Help me be healthy first spiritually, because that will help me be healthy emotionally and physically. Thank You for the example You gave us in Jesus. Thank you for Your Word so we can see what happens when we get things out of order and put ourselves in a place of honor we don’t belong. Help any accolades I receive be to honor You, praise You, and be an example of how You want me to live.
In Jesus’ name, amen!
In verses 24-25, Lamech is prideful about being evil. Have you ever seen anyone do this that you know?
Has there ever been a time when your pride either got you in trouble, or almost got you in trouble?
What attitude would God want us to have in talking about something such as a curse put on one that has committed murder?
Today's verses:
April 25
17 Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. When he built a city, he called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch. 18 To Enoch was born Irad, and Irad fathered Mehujael, and Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushael fathered Lamech. 19 And Lamech took two wives. The name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. 20 Adah bore Jabal; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. 21 His brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe. 22 Zillah also bore Tubal-cain; he was the forger of all instruments of bronze and iron. The sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.
23 Lamech said to his wives:
“Adah and Zillah, hear my voice;
you wives of Lamech, listen to what I say:
I have killed a man for wounding me,
a young man for striking me.
24 If Cain's revenge is sevenfold,
then Lamech's is seventy-sevenfold.”
25 And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and called his name Seth, for she said, “God has appointed[g] for me another offspring instead of Abel, for Cain killed him.” 26 To Seth also a son was born, and he called his name Enosh. At that time people began to call upon the name of the Lord.
