May 8 - Prayer - Questions and thoughts - Verses
May 8
Father God, How often I rely on myself and my own abilities and forget what it is to truly believe in You. Faith...to to truly have faith is to believe in spite of what I don't see, rather than to believe because of proof that is provided by You.
How silly it is that we ask for You o provide the very thing we are doubting You can do? I never seem to make sense, yet You always seem to understand. More proof You created me. You know me so much better than I know myself.
Father, help me believe in You completely. Help me to love You more every day and have more faith every day. I know I don't deserve anything, yet I ask for everything. But then I remember You want to give us everything, yet You know what we need, not just what we want.
Thank You Father for loving me like I have never been loved before and for giving me the faith that passes understanding.
In Jesus' precious and holy name.
Amen!
Oh Abram, what a great guy you are and so obedient to God in some really tough circumstances, but how broken and disobedient you are in others, just like people are today!
We see that selfishness comes up again with Abram trying to save himself. I always wondered why he didn’t realize if God promised Him many descendants, how he thought that was going to happen if he was dead. He had to know God would protect him. But we all mess up, many times tripping over the same sin over and over again.
What is it that causes you to doubt God at times?
What can you do to help remove those thoughts of doubt?
Abram was relying on men’s ways to protect him rather than God’s ways. How often we do that as individuals and as a nation. What prayers do you find help to rely on when you need God’s protection?
May 8 – Genesis 12:10-19
10 Now there was a famine in the land. So Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was severe in the land. 11 When he was about to enter Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, “I know that you are a woman beautiful in appearance, 12 and when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me, but they will let you live. 13 Say you are my sister, that it may go well with me because of you, and that my life may be spared for your sake.” 14 When Abram entered Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful. 15 And when the princes of Pharaoh saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh. And the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house. 16 And for her sake he dealt well with Abram; and he had sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels.
17 But the Lord afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife. 18 So Pharaoh called Abram and said, “What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife? 19 Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her for my wife? Now then, here is your wife; take her, and go.” 20 And Pharaoh gave men orders concerning him, and they sent him away with his wife and all that he had.
