Exodus 23:1-9
1 “You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man to be a malicious witness.
2 You shall not fall in with the many to do evil, nor shall you bear witness in a lawsuit, siding with the many, so as to pervert justice,
3 nor shall you be partial to a poor man in his lawsuit.
4 “If you meet your enemy’s ox or his donkey going astray, you shall bring it back to him.
5 If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying down under its burden, you shall refrain from leaving him with it; you shall rescue it with him.
6 You shall not pervert the justice due to your poor in his lawsuit.
7 Keep far from a false charge, and do not kill the innocent and righteous, for I will not acquit the wicked.
8 And you shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds the clear-sighted and subverts the cause of those who are in the right.
9 “You shall not oppress a sojourner. You know the heart of a sojourner, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.
These laws were meant to promote honesty and fair treatment of others. God is always in the details.
Have you ever been a victim of a false witness? Think about how you were made to feel? How can you testify to the graciousness of God during this time of trouble?
Have you witnessed the poor, downtrodden, or weak being oppressed? What should our response be according to God’s word?
When we see injustice, how can we reflect God’s character of compassion, holiness, and love?
Heavenly Father, I remember feeling totally helpless when someone has lied about me, or when I have had someone mistreat me in a very personal way. When I have felt hate from someone that I couldn’t understand. Someone I considered a friend. I also know this world has given in to the enemy and he is running rampant in this lost and careless world. People don’t care about pleasing anyone but themselves these days. Thank You for giving Your love so I have been able to experience true love from You and from those who love You and are dedicated to You. I know there are many who call themselves “Christians” or “believers” who might have at one time trusted You, but they have forgotten what a daily reliance on You truly means. Help me to never again know what it means to not have You at the helm. Help me to always lean into You and live daily for You and rely only on You for what I need and not rely ever again on the world.
In Jesus’ name
Amen!
