December 17 – Joshua 3:7-13
7 The Lord said to Joshua, “Today I will
begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know
that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. 8 And
as for you, command the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, ‘When
you come to the brink of the waters of the Jordan, you shall stand still
in the Jordan.’” 9 And Joshua said to the people of
Israel, “Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God.” 10 And
Joshua said, “Here is how you shall know that the living God is among you
and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites,
the Hittites, the Hivites, the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, and
the Jebusites. 11 Behold, the ark of the covenant
of the Lord of all the earth is passing over before you into the
Jordan. 12 Now therefore take twelve men from
the tribes of Israel, from each tribe a man. 13 And when
the soles of the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth,
shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan shall be cut
off from flowing, and the waters coming down from above shall stand in one
heap.”
God is speaking with
Joshua, just as He spoke with Moses. It is time to cross the Jordan and His
instructions are very specific.
These folks are about to
witness an amazing miracle. We, too, witness amazing miracles on a daily basis.
Have the miracles failed to amaze us? Have we taken for granted the amazing
birth of a beautiful baby? How about the beautiful sunset or sunrise?
Keep you eyes open today
for miracles and praise God as you witness His hand at work throughout your
day.
Heavenly Father, as I go
about my day I ask that You help me see Your miracles that I sometimes look at
as coincidences. Help me see where You
are at work and where You want me to jump in and be a part of Your work. Sometimes I jump in to everything I see and
over commit myself, but I know if I will listen, You will guide me to the
places You have for me. Help me be
obedient and not make excuses for times I don’t listen. You alone are all knowing and I need to focus
on You and Your guidance rather than what others think I should do. I can’t imagine what it would have looked
like if Joshua had asked his friends for advice and how he would have
deciphered which of the many great pieces of advice he would take. How often I find myself looking to everyone
but You for where I need to be. Help me
always seek You first, last and always.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen!
