December 22 – Joshua 4:19-24
19 The
people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and they
encamped at Gilgal on the east border of Jericho. 20 And those
twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, Joshua set up at Gilgal. 21 And he said to the people of
Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in times to come, ‘What do
these stones mean?’ 22 then
you shall let your children know, ‘Israel passed over this Jordan on dry
ground.’ 23 For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you until you
passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red
Sea, which he dried up for us until we passed over, 24 so that all the peoples of the earth may
know that the hand of the Lord is mighty,
that you may fear the Lord your
God forever.”
Again, the memorial is to serve as a reminder for generations to
come of the faithfulness of God. This dialogue was vital so that all would know
and rest in the faithfulness of God. I find this passage important to me even
today. I did not see this happen, I have not personally seen the memorial, but
I know I serve a mighty God and that He is faithful through all time. Are you
resting today in the assurance the God is faithful to us as believers? Stop and
give Him praise for His faithfulness today.
Heavenly Father, as I think back on all they went through leaving
Egypt, so many years in the wilderness and taking the land that belonged to
them, I know they had to have an immense amount of faith to get through it
all. It seems at times that they
continually waivered, but just like today in the news, I wonder if it was the
same where the bad news is what was most likely to be shared. It doesn’t take many that lack faith or
waiver in their faith to shake a congregation, so I know the entire population
of Israel was impacted, but I believe the majority loved You and wanted to move
forward in faith. Help me be one that
holds on to my faith no matter what is going on around me. Help me believe in You when those around me
have doubts. Help me be one that
encourages others to believe when it seems like the ground around me is
shaky. Help me always be on Your
side. Thank You Father for always being
on my side.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen!
