December 25 – Joshua 5:13-15
13 When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing before him with his drawn sword in his hand. And Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?” 14 And he said, “No; but I am the commander of the army of the Lord. Now I have come.” and Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped and said to him, “What does my lord say to his servant?” 15 And the commander of the Lord's army said to Joshua, “Take off your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
I have no words to explain how these verses ended up being the Christmas Day verses. I did nothing to orchestrate this, it is God alone that brought these verses to us on this particular day. Here we are talking about how God is not only holy and we need to remember to come to Him in a manner worthy of the God of creation, Lord of all, and the one who brings us to just the right verses on Christmas Day, but He is for us. Everything He does is to love on us, and draw us to Him. He wants to have a very personal relationship with us to the point we crave time with Him and miss Him when we haven’t talked to Him enough.
Is that the relationship You have with God?
What do you need to do to move into that type of a relationship?
Do You desire that relationship with Him? If not, pray that God gives you that kind of love so you can grow into a more intimate fellowship with Him that is loving and brings you the satisfaction and happiness that can only come from God.
Heavenly Father, only You would bring me to the verses that shows how much You love me and are for me, and remind me how holy You are. I am so fortunate to have grown up in a family that loves You and taught me about You and Your love, as well as Your holiness. Help me to remember everyday, not just on Christmas Day, who You are and the love and respect You deserve.
I can’t find the right words to express my love, but at the same time, I don’t love You nearly enough. You deserve so much more than I can ever imagine, and much less than I can give.
Thank You for reminding me today of who You are in these verses that certainly aren’t the traditional Christmas Day verses. What a good reminder that Your story doesn’t change throughout the Bible, and Your message is in every verse. Thank You Father for sending Jesus so I had a chance at an eternity with You rather than hell, which is what I deserve.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen!
