February 13 – Judges 6:1-6
6 The people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, and the LORD gave them into the hand of Midian seven years. 2 And the hand of Midian overpowered Israel, and because of Midian the people of Israel made for themselves the dens that are in the mountains and the caves and the strongholds. 3 For whenever the Israelites planted crops, the Midianites and the Amalekites and the people of the East would come up against them. 4 They would encamp against them and devour the produce of the land, as far as Gaza, and leave no sustenance in Israel and no sheep or ox or donkey. 5 For they would come up with their livestock and their tents; they would come like locusts in number—both they and their camels could not be counted—so that they laid waste the land as they came in. 6 And Israel was brought very low because of Midian. And the people of Israel cried out for help to the LORD.
Israel, oh Israel, their troubles begin again as they renewed
their sin. Their sin did not go
unpunished or without suffering. Much
like us, the effect of a guilty conscience can cause dispirits.
Is their shame or guilt that you are struggling with? Your sin may cause suffering or consequences,
but God’s grace is sufficient.
Seek God’s forgiveness and walk in faith even if there are
consequences to deal with.
Heavenly Father, how often we get so focused on our sin or past
mistakes that we can’t move forward and get past it so we can do what You ask
us to do. The enemy loves to use anything
he can to distract us from You. The sins
of our past, the sins of others, wanting what others have, anything that isn’t
of You to keep us from praising You and sharing You with others. Help me keep my eyes on You and You
alone. Help me continue to praise You and
not let the things of this world drag me down and cloud my vision from the TRUTH.
Thank You for loving me when I am so unlovable.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen!
