March 18 – Judges 13:1-7
March 18 – Judges 13:1-7
13 And the
people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, so the Lord gave them into the hand
of the Philistines for forty years.
2 There
was a certain man of Zorah, of the tribe of the Danites, whose name was
Manoah. And his wife was barren and had no children. 3 And
the angel of the Lord appeared
to the woman and said to her, “Behold, you are barren and have not borne
children, but you shall conceive and bear a son. 4 Therefore
be careful and drink no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing
unclean, 5 for behold, you shall conceive and bear
a son. No razor shall come upon his head, for the child shall be a
Nazirite to God from the womb, and he shall begin to save Israel from the
hand of the Philistines.” 6 Then the woman came and
told her husband, “A man of God came to me, and his appearance was like
the appearance of the angel of God, very awesome. I did not ask him where
he was from, and he did not tell me his name, 7 but
he said to me, ‘Behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. So then drink
no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean, for the child shall be a
Nazirite to God from the womb to the day of his death.”
These
verses strike me as a message of hope in the midst of Israel once again being
in a sinful mess and the desire of a faithful man and woman to have a
child. Can you imagine being told by an
angel that your once barren womb would conceive and bear a son?
The
angel gave specific instructions for health care consumption and shared the
child would be a Nazarite.
As
I read the verses, I couldn’t help but think what sound advice was given to
this ‘to be mom’ that is useful still today during pregnancies. How awesome to know that God’s Word is living
and breathing and our instruction book for life. Are you looking to God’s Word for instruction
for your life?
Seek
His Word filled with life lessons, promises, hope, faith and mercy.
It
is the Living Word of God.
Heavenly
Father, I can’t help but think from the very first of these verses that the Israelites
were still living in the wilderness spiritually because they once again were
doing what was evil in Your sight. How
many times I have read these words since we began looking at the old Testament
almost a year ago. I can’t blame them,
though, because we still do it today. I
have had times in my life where that was my direction as well. I’m so glad You helped me see truth and
desire Your direction, Your will and Your perfect plan for me. I can’t say I’m always on track, but it truly
is my desire to be on track and I want to become wiser on the things that truly
matter over time. How much time I wasted
learning things that don’t really matter in the realm of things. Thank You Father for always loving me and
keeping me safe from the enemy when I truly don’t deserve anything from You.
In
Jesus’ name.
Amen!
