April 1 – Judges 17:7-13
7 Now there was a young man
of Bethlehem in Judah, of the family of Judah, who was a Levite, and he
sojourned there. 8 And the
man departed from the town of Bethlehem in Judah to sojourn where he could find
a place. And as he journeyed, he came to the hill country of Ephraim to
the house of Micah. 9 And Micah
said to him, “Where do you come from?” And he said to him, “I am a Levite of
Bethlehem in Judah, and I am going to sojourn where I may find a place.” 10 And Micah
said to him, “Stay with me, and be to me a father and a priest, and I will
give you ten pieces of silver a year and a suit of clothes
and yourliving.” And the Levite went in. 11 And the
Levite was content to dwell with the man, and the young man became to him
like one of his sons. 12 And
Micah ordained the Levite, and the young man became his priest, and
was in the house of Micah. 13 Then
Micah said, “Now I know that the Lord will prosper me, because I have
a Levite as priest.”
In these verses we see the young Levite and Micah disregard the
known will of God. This makes me think about my decision making.
What are
our decisions based on; convenience or conviction?
Do my
decisions come from mere convenience or ‘in the moment? Are they self-seeking
or do I look to God for help? How do they glorify God?
Heavenly Father,
How often I focus on
what other people want me to do, or the opinion of others, what is convenient
to me, what helps me day to day, or what makes me the most money, when I really
need to focus on what You want for me?
The world is so loud and invasive and its so much easier to listen to
that noise rather than Your whisper telling me Your plan. Forgive me when I take the easy road and
listen to the world. Help me keep my
eyes focused on You. I want to do what
is best, and not what is easiest. Help
me, Father, I know I can’t do this alone.
I need Your strength to get through what the world throws at me. You never said this life would be easy, but
You promised to never leave. Thank You
for always being there. I can’t imagine
how the people who don’t know You get through.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen!
