April 17 – Ruth 2:1-7
April 17 – Ruth 2:1-7
1 Now
Naomi had a relative of her husband's, a worthy man of the clan of
Elimelech, whose name was Boaz. 2 And
Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, “Let me go to the field and glean among
the ears of grain after him in whose sight I shall find favor.” And she
said to her, “Go, my daughter.” 3 So
she set out and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers, and she
happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the
clan of Elimelech. 4 And
behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem. And he said to the reapers, “The Lord be with you!” And they answered, “The Lord bless you.” 5 Then
Boaz said to his young man who was in charge of the reapers, “Whose young woman
is this?” 6 And the servant
who was in charge of the reapers answered, “She is the young Moabite
woman, who came back with Naomi from the country of Moab. 7 She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather
among the sheaves after the reapers.’ So she came, and she has continued from
early morning until now, except for a short rest.”
We begin to see His plan unfold. Ruth was willing to go
to the field and labor so they both could be fed. Without this provision, these
two widows would be without food.
Boaz takes note of her desire to work and her love of
Naomi. She seeks his permission to continue to glean and take food home to his
relative. God is making a way for her to be taken care of and eventually, be
married again.
What provisions has God given to you? Are you thankful
for the resources He has provided? Our riches are deep and vast. Bring praise
to the Lord, for He is good.
Heavenly Father, I love this story and seeing how Ruth’s
willingness to work hard and her loyalty to Naomi was noticed by others. I so want to represent You well and have
people notice my love for You and others who love You and follow You. There are so many verses where You direct us
to show our love for You by loving each other, but I know we fail
miserable. I know I fail miserably. How easy it is to say, but so difficult to do. Our society has twisted the definition of
love, but when we look at what You mean in Your word, it is definitely a
sacrificial love, not a “I love you if you do what I want you to do”, which is
what we see everywhere these days. Help
me to be an example of Your love and help people see just a glimpse of who You
are and how You love. I know I fall
short. Help me to see Your truth, and
live Your truth in my life every single day, even when no one is looking.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen!
