April 26– Ruth 4:13-21
13 So Boaz
took Ruth, and she became his wife. And he went in to her, and the Lord gave her conception, and she
bore a son. 14 Then the women said to Naomi,
“Blessed be the Lord, who has
not left you this day without a redeemer, and may his name be
renowned in Israel! 15 He shall be to you a
restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age, for your daughter-in-law who
loves you, who is more to you than seven sons, has given birth to
him.” 16 Then Naomi took the child and laid him on
her lap and became his nurse. 17 And the women of
the neighborhood gave him a name, saying, “A son has been born to Naomi.” They
named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.
18 Now
these are the generations of Perez: Perez fathered Hezron, 19 Hezron
fathered Ram, Ram fathered Amminadab, 20 Amminadab
fathered Nahshon, Nahshon fathered Salmon, 21 Salmon
fathered Boaz, Boaz fathered Obed, 22 Obed fathered
Jesse, and Jesse fathered David.
What a blessing God gave
Ruth to have a son. But not just any
son. The grandfather of King David. None of them knew the gift they had received
in this child. None of them knew that
David’s line would bring the Messiah. God
had given the best gift of all.
In four short chapters we
have seen Ruth go from heartbreak of losing her husband, to heartache at the thought
of leaving her mother-in-law Naomi, to a new heart in a new land, then to love
in a new land, and finally, new life in the new land. What a joy her life was, but as we can see,
the journey wasn’t easy.
What journey will God take
you on to bring you to joy?
Open your heart to God’s
will for your life so He can bring you into His will.
Oh Heavenly Father, I so
love the story of Ruth. So many things
happened to her, because of her and through her. She endured much tragedy and turmoil, but it’s
not what she went through that was most important, but where You brought
her. The fact she was obedient was why
You were able to give her so much joy.
May I allow You to work in my life, even the hard times, so that You can
bring me to a place of joy, blessings, and maybe even future miracles that
change the world for the better. Thank
You so much Father for this love story.
Not just the love story that is obvious between Ruth and Boaz, but the story
of Your love for us. The love that never
ends.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen!
