April 9 – Judges 20:12-18
2 And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of
Benjamin, saying, “What evil is this that has taken place among you? 13 Now
therefore give up the men, the worthless fellows in Gieah, that we may
put them to death and purge evil from Israel.” But the Benjaminites would
not listen to the voice of their brothers, the people of Israel. 14 Then the
people of Benjamin came together out of the cities to Gibeah to go out to
battle against the people of Israel. 15 And the people of Benjamin mustered out of their cities on that
day 26,000 men who drew the sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah,
who mustered 700 chosen men. 16 Among all these were 700 chosen men who were left-handed;
every one could sling a stone at a hair and not miss. 17 And the men
of Israel, apart from Benjamin, mustered 400,000 men who drew the sword;
all these were men of war.
18 The people of Israel arose and went up to Bethel and inquired
of God, “Who shall go up first for us to fight against the people of
Benjamin?” And the Lord said, “Judah shall
go up first.”
At least they did go to God before they went to battle to ask Him
for His battleplan. How often do you go
into battle without seeking God’s plan if you should fight and how you should
fight? Do you ever feel you’re fighting
alone? Maybe God doesn’t want you
fighting because He has another plan.
Here it wasn’t the one harmed that was fighting, it was His nation. Maybe God has rest planned for you and
someone else to fight the battle, but you are too busy planning your fight to
hear what He wants for you. Rest in Him
and let Him fight for you.
Heavenly
Father, help me seek You and Your peace rather than seeking a fight. I know You promise to always be there for me
and fight for me, but sometimes I forget to just be still and enjoy Your
presence and let You do the fighting. I
have to admit there are way too many times I am surrounded by noise and almost
become addicted to it. The TV, music,
people, I sometimes can’t function in quiet because I’m not used to it and crave
noise, but I know You want me to be still so I can hear Your voice, focus on
You, and take time to love You. Thank
You so much for putting up with me. I
know I have to frustrate You at times,
but You love me so well.
In
Jesus’ name.
Amen!
